Spice Ring Gourmet Delights
At the time that ON-Q HR first became involved with Spice Ring Gourmet Delights, it was an extremely busy period and several positions were available to be filled.
Time was spent by ON-Q HR’s ECs, assessing the requirements and the needs of the business. After comprehensive work trials, two candidates were successful in gaining positions. ON-Q HR’s EC’s remained at the site, training the workers to the standard that was required and helping them become used to working.
Three years on and Spice Ring Gourmet Delights still has one of those clients of ON-QHR, Ray, working. Ray spends 4-5 hours a day assembles meats onto skewers, making kebabs for Gold Coast restaurants and function centres.
Directors, Terry Lai and Takao Murakami were appreciative of the support and training provided by the Employment Consultant from ON-Q particularly in the beginning, and even now, if there is need, they know they can call on ON-Q for assistance. From the outset, they liked that ON-Q’s service and support was ongoing.
“We have learned how to help Ray if he goes off task, it just requires a prompt from us and he is back working. Ray is trustworthy, punctual and attentive to what is required, and that is just what we need.
“Quality products are the basis of our business and we know that Ray will be consistent in the quality of the work he produces.”
Terry Lai and Takao Murakami, Directors, Spice Ring Gourmet Delights

Surfers City Holden’s involvement with ON-Q Human Resources covers over 6 years now, over which time several apprenticeships from ON-Q Human Resources Start Smart program have successfully been completed.
Rodney Reid, Service Manager for Surfers City Holden oversights all apprentices and has found ON-Q’s staff generally very professional to work with.
“The service that the Employment Consultants from ON-QHR offer with regular contact and support when required, contributes to the success of the programme.”
The company aims to start two new apprentices each year and what it looks for in an apprentice is a commitment to see the apprenticeship through.
“The company’s investment in apprentices is significant, and of course we want the best outcome. Where, in the past someone with drive and motivation could be a mechanic, with the advent of the computerisation of motor vehicle engines, applicants do need to have some aptitude for the work. Motivation and a love of cars is just not enough any more.”
Work experience is something which Surfers City Holden embraces, and at any time throughout the year a school student will be there on work experience. And this can lead to the offer of an apprenticeship.
This was the case with Hayley, whose work experience was in the Auto Parts department.
At first an extremely shy, reserved person, Hayley has flourished and has been successful in achieving her Certificate IV in Auto Parts in accelerated pace, and is now a confident, competent member of the permanent staff.
As well, there are two first year apprentice mechanics, two third year apprentice mechanics and a school based apprenticeship.

Located in Burleigh, SouthCoast Foam and Fibreglass manufactures rigid polyurethane foam banks, supplying a strong local and the international market.
General Manager Carl McCarthy has been involved with several employees placed from ON-Q Human Resources.
Mark was employed in July 2008 as a factory hand; duties included coring of foam buckets, papering up moulds and stripping and stacking boards.
Although it took Mark time to settle in to the environment, with the assistance of ON-Q’s Employment Consultant and the mentoring and guidance of the General Manager, Carl, Mark has become a permanent, valued member of the team. Carl has coached Mark on social interaction with co-workers and customers, and Mark is responding well to Carl’s mentoring and advice.
“Mark is the best worker in the place, he is always on time, and never goes early, and he always cleans up the place before leaving each afternoon.”
“I like the interaction that ON-Q has, both with its placements and with us. It really gives you peace of mind knowing that ON-Q are there to help any situation that arises, whether it be work related or personal. They certainly go out of their way to assist with the situation. Roger, Employment Consultant with ON-Q, is professional and understands the needs of our business.
“I have no hesitation in recommending their services to any organisation which may be looking for staff in the future.”
Carl McCarthy, General Manager, SouthCoast Foam and Fibreglass

“Quantum Air (Qld) Pty. Ltd has been manufacturing air conditioning materials on the Gold Coast for 5 years now. We are a family business with 25 employees, mostly qualified trades people or apprentices.
Our involvement with ON-Q Human Resources began in March this year (2009) when we were approached to consider employing clients of ON-Q.
At the time we were not considering employing more staff, but when it was pointed out to us how a general maintenance position could be created, we acknowledged that there was a need for the factory and grounds to be kept clean and tidy. This was a job that needed to be done but one we had not prioritised. We could see that it made good business sense to employ someone to do the job on a regular basis.
If people really want to work, we are happy to give anyone a go because we believe everyone deserves a chance to show what they can do.
ON-Q’s Employment Consultant spent some time on our worksite, conferring with Tyrone (Managing Director) and myself, discussing what tasks would make up the position.
Rohin, ON-Q’s client, spent a day on a work trial and we were so pleased with the result, we offered Rohin the job and he started the next week.
Ty drew up a task list so that Rohin knew what he was supposed to do each week. We supplied a new mower and whipper snipper so that he was able to just come in and do his job and take ownership of his position. He was also made responsible for cleaning the amenities and the factory floor. Concessions were made around the hours Rohin worked, to fit the needs of the business and to ensure Rohin was able to complete was asked of him.
It was really funny to see that when Rohin was out mowing and cleaning the property, how all of a sudden our neighbouring businesses were out with their mowers. Now our whole area is much tidier.
The difference it has made to our other staff is really noticeable too; Rohin’s co-workers really value his contribution. The factory is always clean and tidy now and all of our employees have started taking much more care with their work practices and surroundings.
We have been really impressed with the way ON-Q matched their clients to our needs, and the effort that went into making it work for us.
Cheryl (ON-Qs EC) monitored Rohin’s performance closely when he first started working for us and provided on the job support and training as it was needed.
Having just completed 6 months with us, it has been an inspiration to us to see the growth in Rohin, and the involvement of our staff in that progress. He now works for us for 2 days a week and has taken on other duties to help out in the factory.
We would highly recommend businesses to have consultation with ON-Q and discuss their business needs.”
A second client from ON-Q is also employed at Quantum Air P/L as a factory hand.

“I have been the manager of the Coles Worongary store since 2007, prior to that I was managing the Benowa store.
My experience and success with employees placed by ON-Q Human Resources in the Benowa store had been very positive and because of this I had no hesitation in referring ON-Q Human Resources to the new manager at our Benowa store.
It was a natural progression then for me to continue in my new role to work with ON-QHR and the candidates they recommend.
At Worongary, we currently employ 2 staff as trolley collectors, 2 as aisle maintenance face up, 1 in our produce department and 1 in our deli– all are reliable and sick days are few.
In particular, Amber (ON-Q Client) makes my day! She is a person who is genuinely pleased to come to work. She is always bubbly and bright and knows her part of the store to perfection. Our customers love her too.
I have found the assistance from ON-Q Human Resources with the induction process, training in OH&S and the tasks of the employees to be of great benefit.
Whenever I have any queries, I contact ON-Q Human Resources and they are always available.”
I would endorse the service provided by ON-Q Human Resources to any manager within Coles, or any other business for that matter.”
Colin Shepherd, Store Manager, Coles Worongary

As the Human Resources Manager of RACV Royal Pines Resort, I have found ON-Q Human Resources to provide candidates matching the needs of both our business and to their candidates, ensuring the best result is achieved for both parties.
James (ON-Q client) has been employed with Royal Pines Resort since September 2006 and in this time has become a valued member of the team.
The service and support that ON-Q Human Resources continues to provide is especially helpful to its clients and the respective employer.

“We began utilising the services of ON-Q Human Resources over two years ago. They have always worked hard to match job-seekers to our needs as an employer, and the ongoing support they provide to their clients is highly commendable. Consequently, the service they provide has enabled us to become more productive in our week-to-week business operations and we are more cost effective in relation to recruitment costs. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend ON-Q Human Resources to any business for help with their staffing needs.”

ON-Q took the time to understand what we were looking for in an employee in our store and was able to deliver a new qualified team member who is a great fit with our small business. Sourcing and training staff is generally expensive - so this was a great service to us. ON-Q has also offered to provide follow-up training with our new staff member. We were so impressed with our first placement we have recently asked ON-Q to find us another staff member.
