Transition to Work

What's your next move?

There’s a whole world beyond the classroom, and it’s full of choices. Should I get a job? Do more study? Learn a trade or profession?

It’s a lot to think about, but with our flexible range of services, you’re in control. ON-Q can help you explore your strengths, identify opportunities and develop the skills and confidence to pursue your goals.

Transition to Work provides individualised support where you'll get to set goals, gain work experience, access further education and reach life goals like obtaining your drivers licence.  By the end you’ll be ready for the next level – your first job.

Why ON-Q?

We're always with you

The transition between school and work can be a challenging time. For students in need of additional support or at risk of disengaging it can be critical.

ON-Q Human Resources is a not-for-profit, values driven organisation founded on a belief in social inclusion and fostering supportive communities.  We are both ISO certified and accredited against the Australian Disability Standards.  And we are specialists in our field.

Everything we do is tailored to meet your individual needs.  This personal care means you’ll be surprised at how quickly we can help you get where you want to go – both now and into the future.

How It Works

We're with you every step of the way

Once you register with ON-Q, you’ll receive personalised service from an experienced consultant whose job is to make the transition from school to work as easy as possible.

  • We’ll sit down with you to learn about your career goals, then help you make a plan to reach them.
  • Together we identify your strengths and discuss pathways and options you might not have thought about before.
  • The next step is to create an Employment Pathway Plan – you’ll start ticking off your goals as you reach them.
  • You’ll experience different work environments and start learning the skills to do the job you want.
  • Depending on your goals, we can help you access Group Training - Apprenticeships and Traineeships, Disability Employment Services - Employment Support Service or Disability Employment Services - Disability Management Service.
  • At the completion of the program we can offer you further ongoing support via our specialised employment services.

With a winning team on your side, you’ll soon be work-ready. You’ll be surprised at how quickly we can help you get where you want to go.

What’s In It For Me?

Good reasons to get involved

  • You control all the important decisions.
  • Get work experience in an industry you choose - and move into employment at the end.
  • Get skills and training while staying in school - and get paid.
  • Options for further learning via a combination of ON-Q / TAFE.
  • As you learn, support shifts to encourage your independence.
  • Avoid unemployment - ON-Q gives you the skills to find work.
  • It’s all voluntary - no one will force you to participate.
  • If you want to get qualifications while you work, we can help you get into a Group Training – Traineeship or Apprenticeship.

Dream Big

Take control of your future

You know where you’re going, but getting there is a lot easier when you have support. A skilled navigator can guide you through the pitfalls and steer you in the right direction.

Our specialist services are individually tailored to give you the support you need, whether it’s extra help at school, getting into an apprenticeship, arranging a workplace trial, teaching you interview skills and writing a resume, and even finding you a job.

The Transition to Work program will prepare you for employment; support you to participate in TAFE, college or other community services; help with literacy and numeracy, budgeting, using transport and other life skills; and help you find and keep a job.
