We believe that the transition point between school and work is one of the most significant and challenging times in a young person’s life.
Funded through the NSW Government’s Transition to Work program, its primary aim is to support school leavers with a disability to develop a range of skills that will ensure a smooth transition from school to the workforce.
The program is limited to two years of participation, although we’ll be trying to get you work as soon as you are ready.
ON-Q Human Resources is a client-focused company that believes in a personal service for our clients, our employers and our staff. We will shape our services around the changing needs and aspirations of our individual clients and their families.
There are two main objectives of Get Ready.
The first is to get you ready to enter our Real Ability program and find a job that suits you.
We’ll get you involved in a range of activities that will help you do that and which will include things like:
- Getting to know what your needs and goals are.
- Collaborating with our Real Ability program to help you set realistic employment goals.
- Conducting a range of Work Training and Assessment activities to help you decide what kind of job you want and are well suited to. We’ll also carry out assessments on your work performance and collect evidence to support your application for our Real Ability program.
- If necessary, get you involved in our nationally accredited “Becoming a Worker” program to help you better prepare for the world of work.
Our second objective is to help you remain active in your community as you enter work.
We’ll do this by:
- Supporting you to participate in activities that can continue after the Get Ready program concludes, things like joining a team or a group in line with your interests (eg. golf, gym, rovers, youth groups, art groups, sporting clubs, etc.)
- Providing help with developing your social and personal skills, like handling money, accessing public transport, making friends etc.
We believe in supporting integration into the community primarily through participation in paid work and fostering social and personal skills development.
We will focus initially on the skills required to participate in work and then on those skills that will allow you to utilise the natural supports available to you in your community.
