ON-Q is one of Australia’s most experienced and successful specialised employment services for people who have been classified as having a disability.

ON-Q’s Real Ability program has been operating since 1988 and is quality assured against National Disability Standards. It provides specialist assistance to job seekers who have a disability and who require on-going support to find and maintain employment.

Real Ability is known as an ‘open employment’ program, which means that our support is focused on getting the individual into a real job, for real wages, in the community.

A job seeker can be referred to Real Ability if they: 

• Have a permanent (or likely to be permanent) disability 
• Have a reduced capacity for communication, learning or mobility 
• Require support for more than six months after placement in employment 
• Require our specialist assistance to access the financial, social and personal benefits that employment offers.

The people who work at ON-Q believe that paid employment is one of the most important keys to living an active and rewarding life. They provide training, job placement and on-the-job support. Each year our Real Ability program helps hundreds of people who have a disability to find and keep paid work.

Our Real Ability staff are the specialists in providing a range of supports to meet your individual needs, including:

• Assistance to prepare for work, including training in specific job skills 
• Job search support such as resumẻ development, interview skills training and assistance to look for suitable jobs 
• Support when initially placed into a job, including on-the-job training and co-worker and employer supports 
• Ongoing support in the job as required 
• Purchase of vocational training and other employment related assistance 
• Access to employer incentives if required, such as workplace modifications.

Real Ability services operate at all ON-Q offices.

As a provider of Australian Government specialist employment services, our Real Ability program is funded through the Government’s Disability Employment Service (DES).

The Federal Government funds this program under its Employment Support Service (ESS).  The Employment Support Service is for people with permanent disability who require long-term, ongoing support in the workplace.

We call this program ‘Real Ability’ because that name is a more accurate description of what we believe our clients offer employers.
